a simple smile
just got home. felt like writing this down immediately cause i want to remember this later on in my life.
my train ride home was the usual, but not as crowded as it was already getting late. halfway through, a young malay boy between 8-10 years sat opposite. at first, i didn't notice him. he held a big striped tote with a mydin plastic bag dangling from his hand to the floor.
he wore a white sarawak t-shirt, black bermudas and slippers. then i noticed his face - he had a really cute one. "such an adorable kid", i thought to myself. his big brown eyes scanned the train and he looked at the route map at the top of the doors as we passed each station.
and then he caught me staring at him. i smiled, for he looked so adorable.
the journey was long, and we caught each other's eyes again. this time, he smiled for he was shy. then we happen to look at each other again and we both started laughing in silence, uncontrollably. my cheeks started to blush and he tried to hide his smile with his one free hand.
many a times our eyes met and we tried not to laugh. it somehow turned out to be a game of endurance - one which you're not supposed to laugh or grin in the train.
we arrived at my stop and i reluctantly waved goodbye.
this is a story to remind all of us how a simple thing can be so beautiful. all the worries in the world suddenly disappears when you stop to think and just appreciate the simple pleasures in life. and this little boy, with ever curious and intriguing eyes has made my day.
